Clapham South, SW4
Project Details
Brief:
Bifold doors really make your outside space feel part of the home! The owner of this petite outside space in Putney, SW15, loved that he had a view through his new doors, but didn’t like what he could see.
Solution:
We used hardwood timber screens on three sides to provide privacy and create a feeling of space. Raised planters in new oak sleepers set to a curve, give the impression of warmth and sensuality, helping make the space less ‘square’. The circular terrace is emphasised by small-stone sett detailing. The bold choice of dramatic and ‘unusual’ architectural plants then provides a striking contrast in colour, texture and form with the timber backdrop.
Features:
- Architectural plants can provide focal points
- Shape and layout provide interest
- Not ‘over-designed’
- Drainage issues must be accommodated
- The lighting scheme provides a stunning view from inside beyond the hours of daylight
